Spring has Sprung

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive -
to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love..." marcus aurelius

Happy Spring! Today is the official first day of Spring. How lucky we are to be alive today. A fresh new season brings us new life. We can clear out the cobwebs, inside and out....take a deep breath, jump for joy, we are here on this beautiful earth to celebrate life both old and new.

I will be outside today, basking in the sunshine, digging in the dirt, breathing in the smell of the earth, and smiling from ear to ear...being in the moment, just enjoying life. I hope you are to!

Also, Rose Hill Designs was featured on bfyVintage's Treasury list on Etsy, Thanks Emily! She has some really cool vintage stuff...and I am totally digging this the vintage seventies dress with butterfly sleeves....http://www.etsy.com/shop/bfyvintage ...it's so me! And she has an amazing pair of vintage sunshine yellow woven flats....
Yellow is so chic this spring!

Go on over to Etsy and say, "Hi"....

Will you be out enjoying life today?...I hope so!

Happy St. Patrick's Day....We're in the Kitchen

Top o' the mornin' to ya!
Happy St. Patrick's Day. We're in the kitchen with my good friend, Ann Marie of Simply Home. She was kind enough to share her favorite recipe for Irish Scones with us!. Growing up her mom made these a traditional breakfast on their farm, just outside Dublin. This recipe is adapted from a famous Irish Chef, Darina Allen.

Grab a cup of tea, and enjoy!

Orange Butter & Irish Scones
Ingredients
Orange Butter
6 ounces butter
3 teaspoons grated orange zest
7 ounces confectioners' sugar, sifted

Scones:
2 pounds flour, sifted
pinch of salt
3 heaping teaspoons of baking powder
2 ounces granulated sugar
1 orange zest, finely grated
6 ounces butter
3 eggs
2 cups milk

Egg Wash
1 egg
1 teaspoon milk
2 ounces granulated sugar for top of scones

Directions:
Preheat oven to 475 degrees.
For the orange butter, put butter in a bowl and cream. Fold in 3 teaspoons of grated orange zest. Add confectioners' sugar to butter, and beat until fluffy. Keep in refrigerator until ready to use.

For the scones, place sifted flour in a bowl. Add pinch of salt, baking powder, granualted sugar and orange rind. Mix to incorporate air. Toss 6 ounces butter into flour and rub with fingertips until it resembles large flakes. Make well in the center. Whisk together 3 eggs and 2 cups milk and pour mixture into the center. With fingers of your "best" hand outstretched and stiff, mix in a full circular movement from the center to the outside of bowl. This takes just seconds.

Sprinkle some flour on the work surface, turn dough onto floured board.
Pat dough into a round about 1-inch thick. Stamp into scones with a cutter. Whisk together egg and milk.  Brush tops with egg wash and dip tops only in granulated sugar.
Put into baking sheet and bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden on top.

Hope you find your pot of gold today!

Green Thoughts....

St. Patrick's Day is here tomorrow....
so stop by for a fun recipe,
we'll be in the kitchen with my good friend Ann Marie, with a delicious Irish treat

In the meantime, the girls and I will be making our
Leprechaun Trap
...to catch that crazy little guy!

Try this easy St. Patrick's Day Craft tonight with your kids!
Take any size shoebox and cover it with tin foil.
Use glue or tape to secure the foil to the box. You can also use some glittery paper for this too!
Cut shamrocks out of green felt and attach to box. You can also get creative and decorate the box with hand drawn items like rainbows, gold coins and irish flags or St. Patty's stickers
Set the box outside of your door tonight,
and if you are Lucky enough to receive a visit from the Leprechaun, he will leave a little present right outside your door...

The kids love this project. The Leprechaun might leave a little something in the box.
Gold Chocolate Coins
Green M&M's
Green Glow Sticks
Orange socks
St. Patty's Day stickers
...just about anything goes, as long as it's green and orange!
You get the idea, right!

Have Fun!

Our Shelves Are Ourselves

"My brother and I were able to fantasize far more extravagantly about our parents tastes and desires, their aspirations and their vices by scanning their bookcases, than by snooping in their closets.
Their selves were their shelves." Anne Fadiman
Good Morning, and happy friday,
I'm very excited today, you see, Rose Hill Designs
is mentioned on one of my favorite blogs, emilyaclark.blogspot.com.
She's featured some of her readers bookshelves...and all of their very creative ideas!
Tell me, what do you think?

Take a look at the shelves, take a peek inside ....
what do you see?

How about you?
What fills your shelves?

"I will be the gladdest thing under the sun! I will touch a
hundred flowers and not pick one!"
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Yesterday the girls and I took a nature walk around our property, ...we walked around gathering twigs and sticks, we watched the birds high above working hard on a nest....
and to our delight we found some daffodils peeking out beneath the earth...
they are ready to pop open and scream, "SPRING"

Oh, the excitement of spring....I just love it....a time for new beginnings and a time to come out of our long, but much needed hibernation.
Take a walk around outside today and check out what's happening in nature...
Take your kids, or a friend, or just your happy self...
and see what's popping up in your neighborhood....
you might be surprised!
Have a great day!

Comfort + Luxury= Happiness

Comfort is perhaps the most ultimate luxury
....billy baldwin
I live in a historic home dating back to the late 1700's...that's right, it's got lots of character, and little idiosyncrisies, that only a homeowner could love...noisy radiators, low ceilings,
( i think i have a permanent egg on my head from descending into my basement)
....and creaky stairs and floorboards
....but, I happen to love my house and infact, I feel very comfortable and cozy when I am inside...
So, I got to thinking,
What makes a home or a favorite room comfortable?
Why do certain rooms appeal to us more than others...?
Is it surrounding yourself with soothing colors, soft tones, cozy furniture, family photos, all wrapped up in your own personal style? Is it the glow of candlelight or the blaze of the fireplace that puts you at ease. Is it the new zebra stools you found that screamed take me home...
or is it the perfect blue you found at the paint store...?
For me, it's a clean palette of  Dove White, San Antonio Gray and black, mixed with white accesossories, a pop of yellow a little animal print and a lot of SPARKLE...( just like the room above) I found on one of my favorite decorating blogs...www.emilyaclark.blogspot.com....

I feel happy reading in my cozy white couch or sitting in my zebra print chairs....

What are your thoughts... what makes your favorite room comfortable....and where in your home to you go to be happy?

Speaking of comfortable and happy check out a few of my favorite decorating blogs...that I just  Love! Love! Love!
and I check pretty much on a daily basis...they make me happy!!!!

I think they offer tons of inspiration and ideas...
and beautiful pictures to look at it....

Have a happy day!

In Like a Lion...

Happy March
So, we have made it... almost, through Winter.
We've got just about 19 days and counting here until the first day of Spring officially begins. Yippeee!

I'm excited for a new season...but in the meantime, I am going to take these last few weeks of Winter and enjoy one last sleigh ride, a quick snowball fight, make one more snow angel...and my fireplace!
and then celebrate that Spring is almost here!!

How about you, what last few things do you have planned for winter...?

and did March come in like a lion in your neck of the woods?

Here it's 50 degrees, breezy and sunny....maybe a quiet little lion....

heather - and yes, this illustration was inspired by my little girls....
my lion and my lamb...
