Sunday Sketches - A Sketch of Summer

Summer
pen and ink

It's Sunday, and time for Sunday Sketches with Sophia and friends,
over at the Blue Chair Diary.
Grab a pencil and a sketch pad, and come join the fun!

This is a sketch I did this week of my daughter, Summer.

This sketch, is from one of my favorite pictures I have of her,
and it just appeared on my desk this week...
so I took the hint, and decided to sketch it

This is how I started to color it from the sketch pad.
I used pencil and my favorite Prisma colored pencils - Rose Madder and Pink
and then I went in with my Copic (LVE them) pens and ink...
to finish it...
I can't wait to give it to her!

What types of medium do you like to work in?

My Favorites...
Copics, Pens, Ink
and Watercolor

Have a great day!
See you at Sunday Sketches!

Heather, Heather, HEATHER!!!!! This is fabulous. So well done. Shapes and form are pitch perfect and her expression, priceless. I love your tools too, but as you know I am a digital girl. Although, I do still love paper, pencil & my Sharpie pen. (and my eraser)

This is wonderful Heather! I love her wistful look. I love and have used every medium except oils...guess I am a little apprehensive about the drying time! :-)

I love watercolor the best, and am having trouble switching to acrylics for one particular project. I've never tried the copic pens you mentioned. Love both photos of your art!

Hi Heather, love this picture of your daughter...what a cheeky face... love the mischief in her eyes. My favourite mediums are Faber and Castell brush ink pens, coloured pencils (supermarket ones to Derwent), lyra skin tone pencils, watersoluble pencils and crayons... anything I can get my hot sticky paws on really...

oh this is such a precious keepsake, she will love it.

I just use watercolour pencils and an occasional fine line marker. I should expand my range. to Acrylics, maybe.

What a gorgeous sketch of your lovely daughter. And *Summer* is such a lovely name, full of hope and warmth. I like painting with everything, crafting, doing mixed media pieces, in fact - everything but h*******k! Valerie

Heather, what a marvelous sketch of your daughter. There is so much life in it. I'm sure Summer loves this sketch of her. I like working with pencils of all types, pens of all kinds, crayons, acrylic and oil paints, cloth, wood, yarn and string and just about anything that can be used to express myself in art but most of all I love paper mache clay.

She's just beautiful, and certainly speaks of summer. The highlighs in her hair, and those facinating blue eyes....My, you do so great with the Prisma pencils.

I bought some, but I'm still struggling, and seem to always go back to my watercolor washes.

Love and Hugs, and Happy Palm Sunday.

Ohhh she is so cute! I love her expression and her rosy cheeks! I have never heard of copic markers so of course went right on the internet to look them up and they look cool!!!
Do you have a particular style you like?

you know me, I am all about the colored pencils and indian ink! Would love to branch out more into paint tho'

You are welcome anytime for cookies and a starbucks! Would be so fun to have a bloggy art party wouldn't it! I wish all of us Sunday sketchers could meet up for a fun weekend sometime - that would be a blast!

Thank you as ever for your sweet comments and for the friendship we share - Really means a lot to me!

Smiles and hugs!

Very cute! I'm sure your Daughter will love it! My medium of choice (at the moment) is oil pastels, but thinking about the colored pencils for the drawings I've been doing for my Sunday Sketches. Sometimes good to change things up! Wishing you a creatively fun week!

This is sooo cute Heather. I am sure that your daughter will love it.
My favorite medium is acrylic paint right now. I am sooo a painter at heart. Watercolor is what I started out doing. I am starting to get back into it because of Alica Burkes sketchbook class. Loved that.

Beautifully done. Now you need to frame it.

sweet drawing. she's got that "determined" yet relaxed look. I'll have to try the copic pens. I've been using the sakura micron pens.

I love the look and attitude you have captured!

Watercolors are my favorite, but I do like to play with lines and shapes with ink & pencil.

This is such a beautiful portrait of Summer! You are very skilled with your markers :) I have to admit I feel totally out of control when I use markers, so I stick to paint (any kind) and prismacolor pencils.

what an adorable sketch! Love the cute, impish expression of your little girl :-D
I have recently discovered the joy of copics. At first I resisted buying them because I have a large set of the prisma markers (and the copics are expensive!!) but when I found them on sale,I bought a bunch to try out, and they are fabulous!
I pretty much love using all art supplies, watercolors, nib pen and ink, water soluble crayons, acrylic...I could go on forever, lol! call me an art junkie :-D
