In 1912, an incredible gift of 3,000 cherry blossom trees was bestowed on Washington, DC by Tokyo, Japan. Rooted strongly and surviving outside elements, the trees have withstood the test of time –
This year, In celebration of the Cherry Blossom Centennial, Washington, D.C will paint the town PINK - for the nation's greatest springtime celebration....
The National Cherry Blossom Festival....currently in progress
A living reminder of International Friendship, the celebration will run through April 27, 2012

Since I live only 40 miles away, I usually go to the cherry blossom festival every year. This year is the first year in a lot of years I doubt I will make it. Raining today ;-(

Hello Heather, yes it's that time of year here too, trees all fluffy pinky, white,sooo beautiful!
It's the first Spring week-end and I'm just loving the freshness of early Spring, the little buds and a visit to the gardening centre, where I came upon these beautiful blue orchids, amazing. I want to go back to take some photos! Enjoy your week-end and the arrival of Spring!

Heather! I laughed when I say the first photo. I have almost the same exact image on my camera right now, took it while walking the dog. I love the blooms this time of year too.
