Grab Your Pencil

It's so true! I love this quote - Are you ready for an adventure?  Just grab a pencil and a piece of paper and you are off and running anywhere you would like! Maybe you draw the letters of your name in a fancy script. Maybe it's a sandy beach scene on a cold winter's day...Or maybe you write an award winning speech, or a thoughtful love poem with your #2, but whatever you sketch or scribble you are beginning an imaginative
trip to anywhere your mind can take you!
Isn't that wonderful?

So if we are going on a trip we need some cool pencils to take us there...
Here are a few of my favorites
I am thinking of upgrading myself to these white days of the week pencils  or Wear Sequins to Breakfast Pencils....All from Amanda Catherine Designs
(I love the idea of a pink pencil!)

Nothing like a pencil scripted with inspiration - So, OH Happy Day! and We are What We Make
are 2 more of my favorites available here

I'm off to draw my next adventure!

The Journey

Hello!
The new year is upon us, ( it's almost February)! And, I don't know about you, but in the new year, I always tend to move towards new beginnings....
So, Yesterday, while I was walking home, I got to thinking about
New Beginnings
and Old Endings...
There were a lot of endings in 2012....
But, that journey of saying good bye to them leads us to the door of a new journey that we face today...with the key to opening many new adventures.
Does this make sense?

Sometimes things are out of our control, sometimes we experience negative events in life,  that at the time, are unimaginable. But on the bright side,  from every journeys end, I know there is a new beginning to follow.
So after saying my goodbyes yesterday, and clearing my head, I feel like I can finally say
Hello! to 2013 and get back on the path and discover my next journey....

After all, 13 is my Lucky Number!

Crayon Hearts - So fun and easy

We were busy cleaning The Studio this weekend....and we found a lot of crayons and decided to make one of the crafts I had seen here on Pinterest this week -
We unwrapped the crayons ....and broke them into small pieces

We  filled this silicone heart tray with the chopped up crayons and turned on the oven to 275 and baked them for 15 minutes - (if you are going to try this - place the silicone mold on a baking sheet.)

and 15 minutes later they were fully melted
We let them cool for about 2 hours and voila!

beautiful heart shaped crayons!

Perfect for gift giving.
Fun and easy to make!

Time to Accomplish ....The Studio

"Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment"
 - Thomas Carlyle

One of my favorite things about the New Year is grabbing my favorite cup of coffee and locking myself up in my Studio for some much needed CLEAN OUT time!
Yes, I tend to gather paper, pencils, glitter, more paper, watercolors, post it notes, ribbon, inspirational pictures and quotes and they build...and build...until I can no longer sit at my desk! And then, they move to the floor, the computer desk and even the sofa....there's barely any room for my poor cat, Olive -

It gets so bad, that there's nowhere for me to work...and it's time to CLEAN....
So that's what I am doing this week!
How about you....? Do you keep a messy work desk? Or is it nice and tidy...if it is can you come over and help me? And, don't forget to bring another Starbucks, I am going to need it!

And Yes, You are Beautiful!
I love this quote....I don't think I will be recycling that Post it Note!

PS - we are almost at 260 Followers....Look for a give-away coming soon!

Sunday Sketches - Enjoy the Journey

Focus on the journey, not the destination.
Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.

Greg Anderson
Good Morning, whatever your journey is today,

Sunday Sketches -Don't Mess with My Candy

Miss  Kitty is very serious about collecting her Halloween loot!
Save me some Pretzel M&Ms ( my new favorite)  - have you tried them?

Anyway, it is Sunday and it's time for Sunday Sketches with Sophia over at The Blue Chair Diary.
Today I am sharing a work in progress of a watercolor of Miss Kitty -
Children and animals of all ages can be very possessive of their candy....especially on Halloween....
and Miss Kitty is certainly, no different.

Have a great Sunday!

Sunday Sketches - - Time to Visualize

Welcome to Sunday Sketches!
I am happy that you have joined us today.
It is my pleasure to be able to guest host
for our wonderful hostess, Sophia today.

So, Do you visualize what you want in life?
I do...

That's why I am sharing a sketch from my visualization diary
with you all.
So, what is it that I am visualizing here?

Yes, it's a book...
written and illustrated by me...
Ok, No,
this has not been published, yet...
or even written for that matter....
BUT
I have always dreamed of someday illustrating a book of my very own
...and I figure,
if I visualize, practice, practice, practice,
work VERY,VERY hard, then I am halfway there...
Life is too short to not do what you want -
So let's go...
Let's follow our dreams....

I am looking forward to visiting you all....and
I can't wait to see what you have to share, today!
Thank you so very much for joining in!

- Sophia our thoughts are with you and your father at this very emotional time.
xoxo
your Sunday Sketch family!

Madeline kept busy on long summer days playing school and reading to her favorite stuffed animal,
Miss Kitty....
"...and the little butterfly flew away, on another magical adventure...."
The End...

"Would you like me to read you another book Miss Kitty?"
...asked Madeline...
"I brought a whole stack!"

How about you?
What are you up to today?

Sunday Sketches - Believe in Yourself

I saw this wonderful quote written in the blog world this week - and loved it on so many levels.
Growing up I was always told to believe in yourself...That anything was possible....Think positve, and good things will come...To, " Follow your dreams. You can be whatever you want...."

But, as you reach adulthood sometimes it's easy to lose sight of what you want, of what you believe you can do....There are so many other factors and events surrounding us in our lives- There are so many things being thrown in our direction from all different angles, that it's easy to stop believing. ...It's easy to lose sight of our dreams...
But, we can't.

We must always  keep believing in ourselves, for if we don't who will?....

So, I have made my little reminder...with this quote for today
....and Yes - I have pinned this to my inspiration board!
I am sharing it with my friends over at Sunday Sketches, so grab a pencil and meet me there!

Sweet Saturdays- Cute Library Book Bag

I think this is pretty sweet....
the ability to take your own artistic creations and put them on canvas tote bags!

Our favorite way to use these canvas bags is at the library...
The kids fill them up with books and then they know exactly where to find them
when it's time to return the books!...
They really cut back on overdue fees!
other uses
for the dance student*groceries *sleepovers*toys*workout gear*art supplies*
---and the list goes on...

For more sweetness, hop over to Illustrator and artist Diana Evans' blog...

Weekend Reads

Happy Friday, my friends.
I am enjoying an old favorite
book with my kids this weekend -
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume -
do you remember it?
and I am almost through with
 ROOM
by Emma Donoghue -
anyone else read it?

I finished The Help
and have enjoyed listening to the soundtrack this past week in my studio -
( thanks to my girls for buying it for me!)
...these two girls above are the same drawing - painted with different mediums -
just playing around while I listen...

Have a great weekend!
