After a quick visit to Michael's on Friday, my girls and I got to thinking
What Happened to Thanksgiving???
We went to get a few Thanksgiving decorations for the house, and when we got there we couldn't find ANYTHING....not even one little turkey decoration.....
so I was inspired to create this little Pilgrim girl, for my Sunday Sketches entry...
...She even has a wishbone necklace
Should I go right to Christmas decor for Thanksgiving?
What do you think?

true...t'giving just seems to have disappeared...all the retailers are already getting the christmas stuff in gear...nice sketch though...like thewishbone...and cute little outfit...almost the hand turkey on the first shirt..cute...
sad, but i know what you mean about the decorations. I love thanksgiving..I just wish the stores would do a better job of providing decorations until the holiday is over, then move onto christmas. Your sketches are cute, love the wishbone and hand turkey!
I really can't say something about thanksgiving because we don't have something similar in Greece, but the stores in Athens and elsewhere have already Christmas decorations.
Your sketches are lovely and i was surprised when i saw the wishbone because we have it too :)
Happy Sunday!!
What do you normally decorate your homes with at Thanksgiving? It's interesting for us Brits! We've had Christmas decorations in the shops since September I think! I did buy a couple of new little things last week!
Heather, you caught there questioning expression perfectly. I hate that they seem to rush the seasons more and more every year. Time goes by fast enough without them rushing it.
I agree...I don't like to overlap my holidays! haha. thanksgiving is my hubs favorite. It does get lost, doesn't it? Christmas seems to start the day after Halloween!
I'm sticking to my autumnal colors and gourds for a few more weeks! :)
~we usually start autumnal decorating in september for many reasons but one is i have come to learn if i don't purchase stuff early it is gone before you can blink twice...i really can't wait though for christmas~yule decorating...my husband agreed to let us start early this year!! we all sat and watch "elf" last night and "rudolph"...whatever you decide i think is good either way...as for your pictures...wonderful...you truly captured the feeling! warm wishes and brightest blessings~
Cute sketch :) Like the wishbone touch :)
Heather, I love all the holidays that march in one after another at this time of the year, but you're so right. Thanksgiving decor seems to get crowded out between Halloween and Christmas. Why not create your own with this cute little pilgrim girl as a start? She's perfect! If your kids are old enough, they can help create, too! :o)
LOL! The stores do seem to think Christmas gets earlier every year! I often think it backfires. Too early and it becomes commonplace. The novelty and excitement wear off and cynicism rules. Sigh.
You, however, have created charming Thanksgiving sketches! With your talent, Heather, who needs bought decorations, you can create them yourself!
I was in a store the day before Halloween that had the Christmas decorations already! They have created Thanksmas or Chrisgiving.
I love that you have created art for this much overlooked holiday.
Love the hand turkey! Love the wishbone necklace!
Cute, sketches and you're so right! Thanksgiving is just skipped right over now!
That's so funny Heather, because I want to decorate for xmas so the house is all festive for Thanksgiving, but my sweetie has put his foot down and said no xmas decs till after T-day! They are a bit harder to come by aren't they?
Great sketch - Love the pilgrim outfit and the wishbone is a great touch!
Smiles and hope you are having a wonderful week!
I'm with you, Heather. It seems the last couple of years "we" have went from Halloween and straight to Christmas, totally forgetting the Thanksgiving part of life all together. Thank you for being real today and reminding us how important it is to be thankful. Thus why I am posting something I am thankful for every day of the month for November.
Adore your little girl sketches...I ALWAYS adore your work. :) Hugs
Love these expressions!!! You are so clever to be able to create such character with such a simple sketch!! Wonderful!
Love her little t-shirt with the turkey. Little Pilgrim girl is so sweet.
You are so right about this! We need to slow down and enjoy Thanksgiving...the wish bone necklace on your pilgrim is just the best!
Cute! I do like to wait until the day AFTER Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas!
The first one I find to be absolutely adorable and the design on her shirt is awesome!
Very cute illustrations. The first girl is simply adorable and the second one all prim n proper is oh so cute.
Thanks a ton for your nice wishes. I hope so too Heather, I hope so too.
what happened? where did it go?
it didn't use to be like this...

i still love it...but it sure got pushed to the back burner...
LOVE the wishbone necklace

These sketches are wonderful! I was just at Michaels, too. It makes me sad that Christmas (as much as I love it!) has taken over every holiday in the Fall. I started seeing Christmas items before Halloween even!
such a cute post! I wonder what you will do.
cute drawings, I like the hand turkey on her shirt, isn't that how kids used to make turkeys in school? you trace your hand on a piece and cut and then decorate using glue
