Sunday Sketches - My Inspiration(s)

A lot of people ask me about where my inspiration comes from -
Honestly, it can change from day to day - a mood, a picture, a thought, something I might see in town, people, places, or a song or a book -
BUT, my biggest inspiration comes from my two children, Summer and Saylor....
Two loveable characters, indeed!

Summer is sporty, funny, beautiful, moody, silly and oh so very smart....

Saylor is red-headed freckly adorable budding artist...she's a fashionista and a stuffed animal lover...and she never leaves home without her purse and some purple! oh yeah!

So, today I am sharing that with you all - You may recognize some of traits of these wonderful girls inside a lot of my characters, they truly are my biggest inspiration!

I am so proud to share them with you!
Stay tuned for more....Adventures with Summer and Saylor!

Now, I am off to visit with my friends over at Sunday Sketches - See you there! Grab a pencil and come join in, here

Sunday Sketches - - Time to Visualize

Welcome to Sunday Sketches!
I am happy that you have joined us today.
It is my pleasure to be able to guest host
for our wonderful hostess, Sophia today.

So, Do you visualize what you want in life?
I do...

That's why I am sharing a sketch from my visualization diary
with you all.
So, what is it that I am visualizing here?

Yes, it's a book...
written and illustrated by me...
Ok, No,
this has not been published, yet...
or even written for that matter....
BUT
I have always dreamed of someday illustrating a book of my very own
...and I figure,
if I visualize, practice, practice, practice,
work VERY,VERY hard, then I am halfway there...
Life is too short to not do what you want -
So let's go...
Let's follow our dreams....

I am looking forward to visiting you all....and
I can't wait to see what you have to share, today!
Thank you so very much for joining in!

- Sophia our thoughts are with you and your father at this very emotional time.
xoxo

Sunday Sketches - A page from the Sketchbook

When we think happy & positive thoughts...good things will come....
When we are content with our lives....we feel fulfilled.
Have you ever noticed when you think positive thoughts, good things happen?
It's all part of the positive "visualization" I like to have in my life.
Yes, it really works!

And, it's Sunday and it's sketch time with Sophia and the gang over at The Blue Chair Diary.
So, today  I am sharing a page right out of the old sketchbook. For me, it's really a writing/journaling/sketch book type of place to jot down thoughts and ideas.

Do you keep a journal or book for thoughts and ideas?

See you over at The Blue Chair Diary!
Have a great day!

Sunday Sketches - Patriotic Paper Dolls

It's Sunday, and it's also Memorial Day weekend, and we are feeling quite patriotic here in the studio.
I have been playing around with the idea of paper dolls, thanks to my bloggy friend, Brian!
I love the idea! ..and Madeline the Mouse, sure will look good in all of the outfits I am designing for her!
My kids love the idea, too... they have been coloring their own this morning.

I still need some tweaking here and there, but it's Sunday Sketches,
so I thought I would share what I have so far....
I hope you enjoy these...if you print them onto heavy cardstock, you can have fun coloring,  cuttng and playing around...maybe paste her inside your journal or bring her on a picnic!

Have a great weekend!
See you at Sunday Sketches

Positive Thinking Thought #1

My Thoughts are Creative

It's Sunday and it's time for Sunday Sketches with Sophia and the gang....
Come join the fun!
Grab a pencil, sketch something -
and enter your link!
It's that easy, and it's fun!

So today, I am sharing my positive thinking thought of the day!
Positive thinking goes along way.....you know.

So if you need a little creative boost, print her out and tape her to your journal...computer, whatever, just remember what she is saying....your thoughts ARE creative....just put them down on a piece of paper!
Sometimes just starting to draw, write, type ...whatever your creative outlet is can be the hardest part....so for today, keep this thought in mind
My Thoughts Are Creative
and have a great Sunday

Sunday Sketches - and My Winner (s)

It's Sunday...and I am back from my trip.
over at Sophia's blog, The Blue Chair Diary.
So today, I am sharing a quick drawing from my sketchbook...

That's me...
clinging to the chair upon take-off in the airplane yesterday!
I really don't like flying one bit. Can you tell?

I remember as a kid, and even through my late 20s,
if I didn't sit by a window, I was so upset. I always made sure, I sat by the window.
I really loved flying, taking off and just staring out the window....
BUT, now, I will do anything to avoid the window seat...
Instead, I am hanging on for dear life during take-off and landing...
holding my breath and
thinking
GET ME OFF THIS PLANE!

How about you, how do you feel about flying?
Is it just me?

SO...a HUGE thank you all for the WONDERFUL birthday wishes, my friends.
I enjoyed reading all of your sweet messages.
AND now for The WINNER(s) of my
Where in the World is Heather give-away....
and Eva
They both were the first to guess Breckenridge, Colorado
I think the Starbucks clue gave it away, hee! hee!
Yes, I was in Breckenridge, Colorado, on top of the world!
What an amazing place!
Gorgeous views, weather and ski conditions made for a great week!
Thank you ALL for playing along!
So, girls, just send me your email and I will contact you about your special prize!
YAY for you!

Sunday Sketches - Love Letters 2 B or Not too be?

Cleaning out some boxes recently, I found some old love letters that I received many years ago. The handwritten notes were on little pieces of paper, cards and  regular plain old notebook paper. I even have one on a napkin - "Yours Forever"...it read...A simple heart and our initials adorned the front of another letter.
I loved pouring over these handwritten notes. Their words brought back wonderful memories, sweet sorrow, hope and happiness as well. A reminder of where I had come from...
The words inside the notes were written from the heart, thought about, signed, dated, sealed and delivered. There were no backspace buttons, no delete buttons, to speak of. Maybe there were a few cross outs, scribbles, drawings, hearts, etc. but it was written with feeling....written in ink. So I got to thinking,
Are love letters a thing of the past?
With texting and emails, will our children have the memory of the faint smell of the paper, the scribbles
and tear stains on the edge of a note? -
Well, I know one thing is for sure, I will forever treasure my box of love letters!
Thank you to my Valentine, for those!

How about you? Do you write love letters?
Or do you type an email or text your feelings?
When you express your love...
do you say ILU or I love you?

For more Sunday Sketches please pop over to visit my friends at Sophia's blog

Have a great Sunday!
I'm off to write my Valentine, a letter!

Sunday Sketches - Waiting for Snow

"While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about"
Angela Schwindt

This week we had another snow storm, yes, another day off for the kids....and a day of playing in the snow for me! I put away the pencils, shut off the laptop, and spent the day just playing with my kids and our dog in the snow.... Remember how good it felt to ride a sled down a hill covered in fresh fallen snow...Have a snowball fight, and lose? Or scoop up the snow and actually taste it? Or fall down in the snow and giggle?
Yes, I needed a day like this....Thanks girls!
This little sketch is a tribute to all of the little kids and big kids out there waiting patiently for the next snow day....and the call....NO SCHOOL, TODAY!! Yippeeeee!

and Yes, It's Sunday, time for my friend Sophia's Sunday Sketches. Please do pop over and say hello. Why don't you join in this week? Hop on over here, to The Blue Chair Diary. That's where you will find, me!

Sunday Sketches - Card Ideas

I've got Christmas cards on my mind today,
for this week's Sunday Sketches.

Here is one of the ideas, I have brewing up there in my brain for our card this year. Santa Claus and my two little ladies! I always illustrate our Christmas cards, and have lots of ideas, but always find myself waiting until the last minute. Usually I am sending my cards out on the 23rd!

How about you, are yours ready to mail out the 1st of December, or are you more like me, waiting until the very last minute...?

Sophia is our wonderful, creative host over at
The Blue Chair Diary,

Hello Sunday Sketchers.

Sunday Sketches - Thanksgiving????

After a quick visit to Michael's on Friday, my girls and I got to thinking
What Happened to Thanksgiving???
We went to get a few Thanksgiving decorations for the house, and when we got there we couldn't find ANYTHING....not even one little turkey decoration.....

so I was inspired to create this little Pilgrim girl, for my Sunday Sketches entry...
...She even has a wishbone necklace
Should I go right to Christmas decor for Thanksgiving?
What do you think?

For more Sunday Sketches, please follow me over to The Blue Chair Diary
See you there!
