Sunday Sketches - Waiting for Snow

"While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about"
Angela Schwindt

This week we had another snow storm, yes, another day off for the kids....and a day of playing in the snow for me! I put away the pencils, shut off the laptop, and spent the day just playing with my kids and our dog in the snow.... Remember how good it felt to ride a sled down a hill covered in fresh fallen snow...Have a snowball fight, and lose? Or scoop up the snow and actually taste it? Or fall down in the snow and giggle?
Yes, I needed a day like this....Thanks girls!
This little sketch is a tribute to all of the little kids and big kids out there waiting patiently for the next snow day....and the call....NO SCHOOL, TODAY!! Yippeeeee!

and Yes, It's Sunday, time for my friend Sophia's Sunday Sketches. Please do pop over and say hello. Why don't you join in this week? Hop on over here, to The Blue Chair Diary. That's where you will find, me!

Good Morning Heather, what a great sketch. It has been a long time since I played in the snow - I'm afraid my old bones would not allow that now. Glad you got to enjoy the girls day off with them.

She can't wait to get out in the snow! I see the look of anticipation on her face! Glad you're enjoying your snow!

I love snow days. We only had a 2-hour delay, oh well. I love your sketch, I loved being a kid and waiting for the snow. Then listening on the radio for your school to be named. I am still like the kids, I tell them at work that I am following the school schedule so I pray for snow days too.

what an adorable sketch! that could be me looking out the window, lo1!
so glad you can get out and have some fun in the snow with your kids. I used to love sledding down the hill behind our house, then going inside for some hot chocolate.
You've got to enjoy all these wonderful moments in life :-)

Oh my gosh, Heather. I love the quote and she is my favourite sketch of yours. It really spoke to my spirit and the childlike heart and faith I keep trying to push to the surface of my life. Still trudging through but determined this is going to be a better year for me! I feel it deep inside. Thank you for your encouragement this Sunday morning. Hugs!! :)

Oh what a fun day that was! We had snow here (enough to actually stick) on the 2nd... for the first time in many years (last was '87, I believe) so I had spent the day catching pictures, etc. Stopped to watch some young ones sledding down a small hill.

Thanks for the beautiful reminder in your sketch. I was missing the childhood days of winter wonderlands.

What a wonderful day that sounds Heather! Just lovely and makes me wish the snow we had earlier this week had stuck around for more than half a day!

Embrace that inner child!

Love the painting too. You capture children so well - magical...

It is great fun isn't it. I spent hours out in the street with all the kids just before Christmas. Best bit was making snow angels! We also made a huge stack of snowballs while we were waiting for two kids to come out! Your sketch reminds me of me as a girl wishing it would snow!!

Oh sounds like you had a great time out in the snow! I haven't done that since my boys were a bit younger. It's good exercise, too...pulling sleds, climbing back up the hill...and for me..constantly counting 4 heads! :)
Nice memories!

I loved the sketch, but I love what you wrote more. Making time for our kids and grandkids is what memories are made of!

oh what an adorable piece and a wonderful post! I often give thanks to my girls as if it weren't for them I'd be the only solo thirty seven year old sledging down a hill/going on the rollercoaster/ helter skelter slide/ flying fox.....
I think I will still be doing the same at 60..may just have to borrow a small child to take with me! :)

This is so darling! It reminds me of the "Eloise" Christmas movie that my granddaughters watch over and over. The little girl 'Yuko' keeps waiting & watching for the snow : )

I think that sketch could have been me when we didn't have school a week ago :) but on Sat. when we had to go make it up, well, I wasn't smiling like that!
I'm glad you spent time with your girls; we can't ever get those moments back with our kids!

I love this quote, such a sweet picture too! I had a day with my boys yesterday where I put away all my art stuff and played with them. IT's a bit different over here at the moment, we have a paddling pool out the back as it's so warm and I made a tent out of bed sheets for them with the paddling pool in side so that they would have some shade for the sun, then we played in their cubby house, and I really enjoyed it so did they, these are the days that create lasting memories for our kids and so nice that you guys had a day off together to play :0) Thanks for your kind words on my blog too, they mean alot :0) xoxoxox
