Sunday Sketches - Love Letters 2 B or Not too be?

Cleaning out some boxes recently, I found some old love letters that I received many years ago. The handwritten notes were on little pieces of paper, cards and  regular plain old notebook paper. I even have one on a napkin - "Yours Forever"...it read...A simple heart and our initials adorned the front of another letter.
I loved pouring over these handwritten notes. Their words brought back wonderful memories, sweet sorrow, hope and happiness as well. A reminder of where I had come from...
The words inside the notes were written from the heart, thought about, signed, dated, sealed and delivered. There were no backspace buttons, no delete buttons, to speak of. Maybe there were a few cross outs, scribbles, drawings, hearts, etc. but it was written with feeling....written in ink. So I got to thinking,
Are love letters a thing of the past?
With texting and emails, will our children have the memory of the faint smell of the paper, the scribbles
and tear stains on the edge of a note? -
Well, I know one thing is for sure, I will forever treasure my box of love letters!
Thank you to my Valentine, for those!

How about you? Do you write love letters?
Or do you type an email or text your feelings?
When you express your love...
do you say ILU or I love you?

Have a great Sunday!
I'm off to write my Valentine, a letter!

Cute sketch, reminded me of making handmade valentines as a child. I am with you, technology is adding to our lives but it is also taking away from it. What we are losing is the human touch that we all need with each other.

So cool and I love hearing the backstory behind the adorable sketch this week. And, yeah, in your signature color palette. I don't have many love letters but I do hang on to every card or letter ever written or sent to me.

I especially love those received by my daughter.

Well, there's good and bad I suppose - lovely to just rattle off a text when you have a spare second (in fact, I think I might just go and do that now!!). But also, there are the letters to really treasure - especially nice for us romantic types!

I hope that love letters aren't a thing of the past. Last year I did a whole thing on my love of snail mail - there is nothing more treasured than a handwritten note!
Your girl is sweet as always!
cheers,dana

beautiful drawing Heather. This reminds me of what my girls have been doing this past week, making hand-made valentines.
I make elaborate love letters for my sweetie...so funny because we were just going through them. Lots of creative writing, in spirals so you have to turn the letter to read it, little drawings, whatever love names we are calling each other at the time. So yes I still write them. I hope my kids get to experience the joy of opening a love letter...there is nothing like it.

Great post!

How cute, and I like the 2B or not 2B and talking bout handwritten love letters, very cute and clever. I missed a lot on your blog this past week, I highly enjoy your reverse illustration, and your pink outfit and congrats on the etsy page thing and I think that's it for now. Happy Sunday!

Adorable picture. Sitting here at the coffee shop going, "AAAWWwwWWWWWW"! Hee.

I too have a box of old love letters from jr. high and high school and once in a blue moon I will open the box to read them. I even have a collection of letters from an old h.s. girl friend...we used to write and exchange letters daily....drawing stick people cartoons of our teachers, etc. Specifically our orchestra teacher. haha.

So to answer your question. I do texts and emails, but I still do slip in handwritten notes or sketches and pass them along. I'm so with you on the sentimental feelings and value of handwritten notes/love letters. :)

Happy SS!

Aw, lucky Valentine. I am wondering what happened to my old letters like this. Must have lost them in some move somewhere sad to say but yes I have written many over the years and now tend to save such sentiments for cards at xmas and birthdays for my kids and what have you.

Oh, ha, almost forgot to say, how much I enjoyed this art piece--another great Valentine. Love it.

So cute, such a happy expression on her face~ Love how her hair goes in the same color as the heart!
There is something special about hand-written letters and notes... Anyone can copy-paste a love letter in an e-mail, but to actually write it on paper takes time and effort. ^-^

How sweet that you kept the love notes. I just made my husband a valentine card with a special note on it. :-)

You raise a very good point and I think you are right. I think technology has taken some of the little things away but hopefully not completely!

We tell each other we love each other, and my little boys write me notes all the time which I'll keep forever! :0)

Very cute illustration and I must say I LOVE your header!!! :0)

that is really sweet...I remember making Valentine's when I was little and the box...everyone needed a box to put their Valentine's in and gosh, we went all out to make ours the best!

Cute little valentine maker ;^)
The art of writing...you can tell where that's going! Penmanship is no longer a big deal in school. Cursive is on the chopping block. I have my stash of calligraphy fountain pens (even cut some of those nibs myself and cleaned them up with my dremel tool) and still write notes. Oh it's so cheap and easy to send an email.
A box of emails just isn't the same thing. Scented notes, tied up with a ribbon, stored in a little box with other mementos. That screams Romance and days gone by.

ah, this is quite sweet. I love the joy I see in her as she makes a valentine, from her heart!

I love writing letters. But I sell greeting cards and they do not sell very well, so i do believe that texting, emails and phone calls have made writing a thing of the past in general. So sad.
